AVN or avascular necrosis of hip joint is problem due to decrease in blood supply of the hip joint. This can happen due to following reasons,
1. Alcohol
2. Steroids 
3. Blood problem like sickle cell anemia
4. Neck femur fracture
5. Ankylosing spondylitis
Patient can not walk for long time and can not sit on floor or run. MRI and X rays help in diagnosis of AVN.
in first stage we can do medical treatment . Patient should avoid alcohol and steroids and also avoid walking for long hours or heavy weight lifting.
In second and third stage core decompression or drill hole technology can be used for hip pain. Drill hole can give you pain relief but it is not permanent cure. 
For permanent cure hip replacement is best option. Uncemented ceramic on poly is best hip for most of the patients with long life. 
Patient can do all activities after surgery. There is no bed rest and walking is allowed from next day.
Cemented hip is used when patient has weak bones.
