Why does it take more than a year to heal an ACL injury?
The ACL ligament is an important part of the knee joint. It helps in stability and running. when there is a new graft planted in the knee joint, then, it starts taking blood from the bone tunnel, and after three months, it starts becoming stronger. so the original graft first remains weak for a few months and then gradually becomes stronger in the next few months. Sometimes, when patients start playing games so soon, they it become torn or stretched. so as a specialist in ACL surgery, our recommendation is to not to play sports for up to 9 months. Sometimes when a player goes to the game early chances of re-tear and then revision surgery may be needed. you can do jogging in three months and running in 6 months.
